Dinner with Barilla ProtienPLUS penne- Ssausage & Tomato Veggie Pasta

I’ve been loving this Barilla ProteinPLUS pasta BzzAgent sent me to try out.   I already made a yummy shrimp dinner with the spaghetti and knew I wanted to do something with sausage with the penne.

Barilla ProteinPLUS sausage & tomato veggie sauce

If you missed my Shrimp & Broccoli dish with Barilla ProteinPLUS pasta here is some info on this pasta.

according to the front of the box:

  • Its loaded with 17 grams of protein in a 3.5 oz portion.
  • Crafted with simple ingredients, like flaxseed, barley and oats
  • Made with protein-rich chickpeas, lentils and egg whites
  • Great source of fiber ( 7 grams)  and ALA omega-3

It tastes great & is filling.

Though I did look at the label and this is not for a serving size but I never have a serving size when it comes to pasta but just wanted to throw that out there.

  • Barilla ProteinPLUS  2 oz serving size , 10 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, 190 calories
  • Barilla Whole grain : 2oz serving size, 8 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber , 180 calories
  • Heartland Whote Wheat : 1cup dry serving size, 7 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber 220 calories

Ingredients  used:

  • Barilla ProteinPLUS penne pasta
  • Sausage
  • diced tomatoes ( with olive oil & garlic)
  • mushrooms
  • red pepper
  • spinach
  • parmesan cheese
  • chicken broth
  • onion powder
  • garlic & pepper seasoning
  • Italian seasoning

Barilla Protein Plus sausage & tomato veggie sauce

First add water to a pot to boil , add salt.

Next brown the sausage in a pan in med-high . Halfway through I added the diced red bell pepper.

I then added the sliced mushrooms. Stir

Next add a 15oz can of diced tomatoes . Stir

Add some chicken broth.

barilla proteinplus sausage & veggie sauce

My water was boiling at the point so I added the pasta to the water.  I cooked for about 11 minutes.

I wanted some green and had some a little spinach so I rough chopped it…. also meaning I already washed my cutting board so I tore it into pieces with my hands haha.

If you want it a little saucier , you can add more broth.

Next add some parmesan cheese. Stir.

Drain pasta.

For the most part I always keep the sauce & pasta separate because sometimes I like more sauce than pasta or like to evenly coat the pasta. Depends on my mood 🙂

Add pasta to a bowl ( or plate) top with the tomato veggie sauce and mix.

Top with parmesan cheese & ENJOY!

Shrimp & Broccoli with Barilla ProteinPlus Spaghetti

BzzAgent sent me 2 boxes of Barilla ProteinPLUS pasta.  I love that this pasta has added protein which is what is great to keep me full and energized.

  • This pasta is loaded with 17 grams of protein in a 3.5 oz portion.
  • Crafted with simple ingredients, like flaxseed, barley and oats
  • Made with protein-rich chickpeas, lentils and egg whites
  • Great source of fiber ( 7 grams)  and ALA omega-3

I recently bought shrimp and received this pasta just in time to make something delicious!

BarillaUS ProteinPLUS Shrimp & broccoli

Ingredients I used:

  • Barilla ProteinPLUS spaghetti
  • Shrimp ( 12 oz)
  • Lemon ( lemon juice)
  • Broccoli
  • Butter
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Garlic Powder ( or minced garlic)
  • Italian Seasonings

Add water to a big pot, add salt, bring to a boil. Add pasta to boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes. Drain.

Cut & steam broccoli. I drained the broccoli added olive oil, a little butter, & some seasonings in the pan and then placed the broccoli on top. Stirred until mixed.

BarillaProteinPlusShrimp1

Add about a tablespoon olive oil. Add shrimp. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes ( be careful) ,  Italian seasonings, 2 tablespoons of butter.  Once pink I added lemon juice from half a lemon. I also added some parmesan cheese.  Turn off

BarillaProteinPlusShrimp

( You can add more oil and butter to make more ‘sauce’ ) When pasta was done I added a couple of tablespoons of the pasta water to the pan as well.

You can add all of these ingredients to the same pan if you wish but I chose to keep them separate .

Put in a bowl , add as much or little of everything you want. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese! YUM!

This dish was delicious. My friend Shawn also had a bowl and loved the pasta ( I even got him to eat more broccoli than normal)

I too enjoyed this dish. The pasta, I think ,added a little flavor to this dish..maybe a little ‘nutty’ . It tasted great & was filling. I didn’t feel bloated after eating it or heavy.  Definitely will add this to my diet when I have pasta. I’m a huge fan of the ingredients… lentils, chick peas, barley, egg whites.

Jewelry Box- Before & After

A couple of months ago stopped into my local Goodwill to see if I could find any hidden treasures. I ended up finding a jewelry box that had an interesting look , it was a bit outdated looking though. I’ve been itching to do a DIY project and the cost for the jewelry box. Only $5!  ( Its a MELE Jewelry Case)

BEFORE

JewelryBoxBefore

All it needed was some paint to update it. I wanted the majority of it a silver but wanted a pop or color on the drawers so when its closed it would pop through the lattice doors. I ended up choosing a turquoise color.

When it was done… it was exactly what I wanted.

I first took off the doors and hinges. Wipes & cleaned the surfaces.

I decided spray paint would be convenient and had a good experience using it in the past.

I picked up Rust-oleum painters touch paint & primer in ‘Metallic Aluminum” & Rust-oleum American Accents in “Satin Seaside” . I really like this brand because it only took 2 coats , dried fast, & easy to use. I believe they were $3-4 for a can & an array of colors to choose from.

I put down a large piece of cardboard and went to town. For the drawers , I cut out pieces of cardboard to place right on top so the fabric wouldn’t get paint on it. My cutting wasn’t exact lol so I did use a little painters tape for extra protection if there was any space.

AFTER

JewelryBoxAfter

Before I didn’t know what I was going to about the fabric.  It looked outdated & drab looking but this turquoise color made it look more golden & complimentary.

I also added a little detail on the handles. I took a q-tip and added a little silver paint to bring out the details.

Jewelry Box DIY handle

I put my lipstick & gloss holder on top for now. Not sure if I will use it for make up/ beauty or jewelry just yet.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Face SPF

When I used to think of Hawaiian Tropic brand, I would think of products to help get you tan or after care products.  My mom would always use them and remember using the products in my teens as well.  So its nice to finally think of them as a brand that also has product to protect you from the sun.

Last year  I tried their Silk Hydration body SPF & this month I was able to try their NEW Silk Hydration weightless face SPF.

HawaiianTropicSPF

One of the things I love about Hawaiian Tropic is the scent. It doesn’t smell like sunscreen , it has a nice tropical scent that isn’t overpowering. The scent just puts me in a good mood. I hate smelling like sunscreen.

The bottle is small,  so its easy to throw in a purse or beach bag.  The pump makes it easy to get the perfect amount of lotion. Also less likely to have it leak in your bag.

I wish I received this before my extended vacation in Florida. It would have been perfect. The weather this week here in CT, was nice and we even had some hot weather ( almost in the 90’s)  I headed to the beach and put this SPF to the test.

Pros:

  • Easy to apply
  • smells great
  • Left skin soft & moisturized
  • Didn’t leave skin feel tight after drying/ applying
  • Light weight

Cons:

  • left my skin looking a greasy

HawaiianTropicFace

I was a little sad that it left my skin looking greasy because I didn’t have that issue with the Silk Hydration body SPF. I’ll still continue to use this when I go to the beach or maybe do any outdoor activities but it’s not an SPF I would wear daily.

What are your favorite Hawaiian Tropic products? or What is your favorite face SPF?

Revlon Colorstay brow , liner, & mascara review

Hello. I’m Carra and I’m a beauty addict! lol I love trying out new make up & beauty products. When I had the chance to try some newer products from Revlon, I was very excited.  Crowdtap sent me 5 products to try.  A brow pencil, brow crayon, mascara, eye shadow, & eyeliner.

RevlonColorStayCrowdtap

Super-length mascara #101 Blackest black

Makes lashes look lush & full. I really liked this mascara. I don’t know why I never really thought about trying Revlon mascara but I’ve been missing out. It made my lashes more lush and long. It enhanced them in a natural way but still gave my lashes some oomph.

Colorstay Creme Eye Shadow #730

PralineRevlonEyeShadow

This shadow is a cream that goes on smoothly and stays on . Its creamy and buttery and feels great on.  It’s also waterproof.  It has a built in brush which is a nice touch & comes in handy. I received the color praline which is a great neutral shade. It has a nice shimmer to it. I’ve actually been using my finger and in one swipe , my eyes look great. Its neutral but adds a little something to my look. I love it because I can wear it daily since its so easy to apply.  You can wear it alone , to your brow bone, use in the center of your eye to give dimension with other colors.

Colorstay Brown Pencil  dark brown #220

Revlon Colorstay Brow Pencil

This pencil is waterproof, has an angled tip point, & on the other side has a blending brush on the other side. It helps define brows.  It wears up to 24 hours. I like this pencil because the angled tip gives small lines which look like hair so you can’t tell you filled in your brows. I also like the brush on the other end to help blend . It also stays put and doesn’t smudge. I only did a little but toward my arch / end of brow where my brows get a little sparse.

Colorstay 2 in 1 angled kajal eyeliner #101 Onyx

Revlon 2-in-1 eyeliner onyx

This liner has an angled tip with a angled brush on the other side to help achieve a smokey eye look with one pencil.  This is perfect for a makeup bag when you take it on the go since its a 2 in 1. I like this eyeliner because its pigmented and easy to blend which makes doing a smokey eye simple.

ColorStay brow crayon dark brown #315

Revlon Brow Crayon

I realized crayon makeup are becoming more popular. I like them because I feel like I have more control when using them  This brow crayon has a wax to powder finish which is buildable & blendable . Its also waterproof . It wears up to 24 hours.

I liked all of these products. The mascara was my favorite. I even did a photoshoot and wore it because it made my lashes so pretty. ( I also used the brow pencil) Next up was the creme shadow. I love that its so simple to apply , I sometimes don’t have time to do eye shadow so now if I wanted to add a little more something to my look I just swipe some on my lid and im done.

IMG_2768 (1)

I didn’t get too much use out of the other products. The eyeliner is going to perfect for when I go out and want to do a smokey look. The brow crayon didn’t do too much for me. I did use the pencil and really like that it looked natural and was easy to blend. It also wasn’t to dark.

Have you tried any of these products? Which do you want to try? DO you have a favorite Revlon product?

I received these products for free from Crowdtap for being part of the Revlon Crowd. All opinions are my own.

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Honeysuckle body wash review

MrsMeyersBodywashSpring has sprung… only if the weather was a little more cooperative here in the CT. I need some sunshine and warmth!

Crowdtap sent me a bottle of Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Honeysuckle body wash to try. I love honeysuckle. I remember when I was younger they grew outside our apartment and would eat nectar.  In my 20’s I moved to an apartment and the fence in the backyard was covered. I loved after it rained and the honeysuckle scent was in the air mixed with the rain. I would go on my porch on the 3rd floor and just breathe it in.

A little about this body wash:

  • Softens with Aloe Vera Gel, and a unique blend of essential oils.  A few other ingredients include flaxseed oil ( to soothe skin), chamomile extract, olive oil( provides vitamin E, moisturization) , glycerin ( attract moisture & softens skin)
  • Made with plant-derived ingredients
  • Free of animal-derived ingredients and not tested on animals.
  • Free of parabens, phthalates, triclosan, artifical colors, formaldehyde.

Other scents:  Basil, Lavender, & Lemon Verbena

Retails $7.99 . You can find it at Target or head to Mrs. Meyers website to find a store near you

Not only is this a body wash but you can also use it to wash your hands and the formula is gentle enough to wash delicate clothing. I haven’t used it these ways yet but will try them out.

I really loved the scent, it wasn’t overpowering.  The scent brought me back to my old apartment and smelling the honeysuckle after a rain storm.  I  just kept wanting to smell it.  I also liked that it didn’t leave my skin feeling dry and I felt clean afterwards.

Have you tried Mrs. Meyers body wash before? Do you have another favorite Mrs. Meyers product?
